Loudon Wainwright III Interviewed on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Monday, November 17, 2008
12:00pm - 2:00pm

Host Bob Dubrow interviewed longtime singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwright III by phone on Halloween. The recorded conversation will be aired at around 12:30 pm, along with many of the songs for which he has long been admired since his Atlantic Records debut in 1970. Loudon plays the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston on Saturday, November 22. Wainwright is best known for the 1972 novelty song hit, "Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)", and for playing Captain Calvin Spalding (the "singing surgeon") for the American television show, M*A*S*H. Using a witty, self-mocking style, Wainwright has recorded over twenty albums on eleven different labels. Two of his albums have been nominated for Grammy awards: I'm Alright (1985) and More Love Songs (1986).Wainwright has also appeared in a number of films, including The Aviator, Big Fish, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and the television series, Undeclared. He composed the music to the 2007 Judd Apatow film, Knocked Up, and played an obstetrician in it. Wainwright fathered Rufus and Martha Wainwright, both successful musicians, by his folk-singing first wife Kate McGarrigle, and had an additional musical offspring, Lucy Wainwright Roche, via singer Suzzy Roche of The Roches.
