PATNAUSEAM (OMICRON Edition): BALTIMORE
Hosted by:
Originally aired:
Randy Newman's fatalist ballad about the Maryland port on hs 1977 LP Little Criminals was overshadowed by his unlikely hit "Short People." Infamously written about a City that Newman never visited, "Baltimore" was reborn immediately by Nina Simone's aqueous funk as well as a roots vocal reggae by the Tamlins. Sly & Robbie produced the cover by Tamlins, generating the regenerative "Baltimore" riddim. We'll hear two hours of versions that ping-pong between versions in these three styles.
