An International Women's Day Occupation on WMBR's What's Left Program

Was aired on the program: Friday, March 8, 2019
6:00pm - 7:00pm

The Celebration continues. What's Left will celebrate International Women's Day and WMBR's Women's Week, with a live interview with two of the women who created LEFT ON PEARL, a documentary about a bold, unprecedented action for women's rights. On International Women's Day 1971, hundreds of Boston-area women marched to a Harvard University-owned building, 888 Memorial Drive in Cambridge, and occupied it for 10 days, demanding a Women???s Center as well as low-income housing for the Riverside community in which the building was located. The occupation ended proudly and peacefully, and helped lead to the explosion of feminist awareness and women's services in the 1970s and 80s in Greater Boston. The film, which was released last year, explores the conditions and ideas surrounding the occupation through the remembrances of women who were there.
