Two Hour Special and Interview Pt. 2 with Dave Davies of The Kinks on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, April 9, 2019
12:00pm - 2:00pm

How does one encapsulate the breadth of The Kinks catalog? It began in 1964 with a rudimentary r&b and garage sound peppered with the harder rock and indelible riffs of songs like "You Really Got Me" and "All the Day and All of the Night." Dave Davies, the guitarist delivering the then revolutionary guitar phrases, accompanied his brilliant songwriting brother Ray. The brothers were a volatile twosome, whose public quarrels are legendary and have continued almost to this day (they are currently in the process of mending their rifts). They graduated to the highly melodic provincial theme explorations in albums like "The Kinks Present Are the Village Green Preservation Society" and "Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)," along the way cutting the classic songs "Waterloo Sunset" and "Sunny Afternoon," as well as many more exquisite numbers. Then came "Lola" and a series of mid-'70s concept albums, followed by a late '70s-early '80s bigger arena type sound that brought them to their commercial heights (among their later hits: "A Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy" and "Come Dancing"). Their breakup in 1996 foreshadowed a series of solo albums, and we've been waiting for a reunion since. This is Part Two of two shows, thanks to the fact that an hour of music does no justice to the amazing band known as The Kinks. Dave Davies and his band appear at the Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, NH on April 10, 2019.
