Two Hour Special and Interview with Brian Auger on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, May 7, 2019
12:00pm - 2:00pm

Keyboardist Brian Auger has been on the scene since around 1962 with his jazz trio, followed in 1965 by a rock/r&b band called Steampacket, sort of a supergroup before the members became "super," and featuring Auger, Long John Baldrey, Julie Driscoll, Vic Briggs (later of the Animals) and Rod Stewart. By 1968 swinging London saw Brian's band Trinity, a foursome with Driscoll on lead vocals, hitting #1 with their cover of Dylan and The Band's "This Wheels on Fire. Julie's departure in 1970 brought on Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, a jazz fusion vehicle that released 10 albums over the following decade. Jazz, pop, r&b, soul and rock are all mined in his work...and some have called him the "Godfather of Acid Jazz." We'll be concentrating on his '60s and early '70s work here. Brian Auger's Oblivion Express arrives at Boston's City Winery on Sunday, May 12.
