To celebrate PRIDE WEEK at WMBR, Subject to Change takes a look at one of the queerest popular songs in history, "Nature Boy." Made famous in 1948 by Nat King Cole, the song exudes a same-sex fascination with mystique. Paleo-hippie eden ahbez (born George Alexander Ahbe) wrote the song about a nomadic group of germanic, sexually-open, health-crazed nudists. While the songwriter and singer were nominally straight (not that there is anything wrong with that), the song's adoring look at another male ("A very strange enchanted boy") and pro-love ethos has made it an enduring anthem for non-straight communities. "The greatest thing you'll ever learn/Is just to love and be loved in return."
