Two Hour Special and Interview with Mike Reilly of Pure Prairie League on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, July 16, 2019
12:00pm - 2:00pm

Didn't everyone's old girlfriend wear out their copy of "Bustin' Out," the second album by Ohio's country-rockers Pure Prairie League, released in 1972? Yep, because it contained the irresistible hit "Amie." I mean, whatcha' gonna do? That song resonated throughout the decade, and that album remains a stone cold classic of its genre. Craig Fuller (later of American Flyer, Craig Fuller/Eric Kaz, and Little Feat) was the main songwriting force behind the debut and its follow-up. Just as "Bustin' Out" arrived, Michael Reilly joined the band as frontman, singing lead and playing bass. The '70s brought a total of eight albums, and the growing list of PPL members showed it becoming a revolving door for talent. Then in 1978 future country music star Vince Gill joined, and their biggest hit followed, 1980's "Let Me Love You Tonight." Yep, that mainstream sound, as Mike says, like that of Player and Ambrosia. And so it goes. The band reformed in 1998 and have been delighting audience's since. Pure Prairie League appears with Poco and the Atlanta Rhythm Section at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, MA on Saturday, August 17.
