Considered one of pop's finest standards, George Gershwin set a poem of DuBose Heyward to music in the 1935 opera Porgy & Bess. The opera about southern working class African American life was first performed in Boston. The featured aria, Summertime, has spawned nearly 2,000 recorded versions. We'll hear the best and the worst of them on a special three-hour edition of PatNauseum, including jazz versions during the time of Sound Principles.
