Two Hour Special and Interview with Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge and Cactus on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, November 5, 2019
12:00pm - 2:00pm

The heavy symphonics and dirge-like, keyboard and vibrato-laden psych pop of Vanilla Fudge in the late '60s is said to be one of the progenitors of the heavy metal and prog genres. An interesting call. Most of us know them by their irresistible cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" from 1967. After five albums they broke up in 1969. Bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice next formed hard blues rock band Cactus for another four albums, and then had a stint with stunning guitarist Jeff Beck in Beck, Bogert and Appice. Another move for Carmine was founding KGB, also featuring Ray Kennedy, Rick Grech (Blind Faith), Mike Bloomfield (Butterfield Blues Band) and Barry Goldberg (The Electric Flag). And then the Rod Stewart Band...and yes, it's true, he co-wrote "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy with Rod the Mod. I have forgiven him. Here he is talking about his rollercoaster life. Vanilla Fudge (featuring three out of four original members) appear at the Narrows Art Center in Fall River, MA on Saturday, November 16.
