Part 1 of the WBCN Retrospective Featuring Interviews with Former DJs Mississippi Fats, Tommy Hadges, and Bill Lichtenstein on WMBR's Lost & Found Program

Was aired on the program: Tuesday, December 3, 2019
12:00pm - 2:00pm

"WBCN and the American Revolution" is a new film documentary that began showing at film festivals this past fall and is now hitting Boston and other MA cities beginning this month. Bill Lichtenstein, the filmmaker, started volunteering on the legendary Boston radio station at age 14, and not long afterwards hosted an overnight shift for a while. The film focuses on the fabled early days of BCN, and that is the concentration of our two part retrospective as well. At least ten jocks from WMBR (called WTBS until 1979) went on to star on what began as a progressive, free-form "underground" FM station. Two of them, Joe Rogers (aka Mississippi Fats, the one to kick off the very first show in March of 1968) and Tommy Hadges, both began at WTBS. They, along with Lichtenstein, will be our interviews on Part 1 of this retrospective. You can also expect some music and tidbits from the golden age of this now defunct (as of 2009) radio treasure known as WBCN, the "Rock of Boston." "WBCN and the American Revolution" comes to the Regal Fenway Theatre in Boston on December 3, with several more showings throughout December and January in venues in Cambridge, Somerville, Beverly, Lowell, Natick, and Fall River. More information on the showtimes in other cities is here.
