Today's PatNauseum explores the African-American spiritual, "Children, Go Where I Send Thee", a Christmas carol beloved by white and and black vocal gospel groups. This 18th Century song was a staple of gospel outfits, and then folklorist (and fine singer in her own right) Jean Ritchie is credited with expanded awareness of the song into hillbilly and folk communities. The show explores renditions actually sung by children, as well as those delivered in a rollicking style by pop and soul groups.
