Dave Cousins, founding member and leader of British progressive folk-rock group The Strawbs, will be joining host Eli Polonsky for a telephone interview beginning at about 12 noon.
Originally formed in the early 1960's as a London folk group called "The Strawberry Hill Boys", by 1967 the bands name was shortened to The Strawbs, and their music took on a more heady, ethereal folk-rock sound. As contemporaries of legendary British folk-rock groups such as Fairport Convention and Pentangle, the late female singer/songwriter Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention first recorded an album with The Strawbs in 1967.
In 1970, The Strawbs were joined by future Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman for two albums, and their sound shifted further toward British electric "Prog. Rock". With changing band lineups alternating acoustic folk-rock with electric progressive rock spanning over the past three decades, The Strawbs continued to release albums and tour worldwide. A rare reunion of their 1974 original electric lineup for their two progressive rock albums released that year, "Hero And Heroine" and "Ghosts", is currently touring, and will perform at the Regent Theatre in Arlington on Friday, June 22nd.
