The dancefloor in Heaven just got a little funkier. Hamilton Bohannon passed this April at the age of 78. Georgia-born, but Detroit-motivated, Bohannon brought a relentless Teutonic approach to pounding funk rhythms in the 1970s. He recorded for large independent and major labels over the years, but his work rarely penetrated mainstream awareness - he scored just one top ten song on the R&B charts for his iconic "Let's Start the Dance" (first of a trilogy). He may be more known for a shoutout during Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love": "Who needs to think when your feet just go/
'Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon'". This episode of R&B Jukebox will feature a tribute to Bohannon from Patrick Bryant of Subject to Change
