Originally aired:
Musician, broadcaster and author Sid Griffin, best known as leader of "alt-country" band The Long Ryders in the 1980's and currently The Coal Porters, is also the writer of books and broadcast productions documenting the country-rock scene of the late 1960s.
Beginning at about 1:00 PM, host Eli Polonsky will be interviewing Griffin by telephone about his latest book, "Million Dollar Bash", which provides a comprehensive in-depth look at Bob Dylan, The Band and their home recording sessions in 1967 which were eventually released years later as "The Basement Tapes". While many other rock and pop artists were going "psychedelic" in 1967, Bob Dylan withdrew from the limelight and made informal home studio recordings with his backup band The Hawks, soon to be renamed The Band. "The Basement Tapes" produced some of the most revered and covered songs of Dylan's career, and contributed to developing the influence of "Americana" in contemporary music.
More information about "Million Dollar Bash" is here. WMBR will be offering copies of the book during our annual fall fundraising week from November 1 through November 7!
Location: 88.1 FM
