Lush Life on WMBR's Subject to Change program
"I used to visit all the very gay places
Those come-what-may places
Where one relaxes on the axis
Of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life
From jazz and cocktails"
So begins "Lush Life", one of the finest pop songs ever written. As Part of WMBR's Prideweek celebration, Subject to Change focuses on the this 1948 work of black queer teenage wunderkind Billy Strayhorn, confidante to Duke Ellington. We'll hear two ours of this song, popularized by Nat King Cole in 1949.
