Originally aired:
Subject to Change celebrates the music of Marvin Gaye for the rest of July. First up, the acclaimed title track to his groundbreaking 1971 album. The album heralded an era of socially conscious, artist-driven songs and concept albums, a distinct break from Motown's factory-line division of labor style of singles. The song was inspired by a tour of tghe Four Tops on the West Coast and Marvin's own introspection. “With the world exploding around me, how am I supposed to keep singing love songs?” We'll feature two hours in different styles and variations.
