Dan Hicks' musical career began in the mid-1960s San Francisco music scene when he joined pioneering psychedelic roots-rock band The Charlatans. In 1968 Hicks formed his own band, Dan Hicks and The Hot Licks, featuring a unique hybrid of styles influenced by swing, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, novelty music, and old-time pop. The group released several successful albums before disbanding in 1973.
After pursuing other musical projects including his group The Acoustic Warriors in the 1990s, Hicks reformed The Hot Licks with new members in 2000. Touring consistently for the past decade, Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks will be performing this Friday, December 2nd at the First Parish Church in Harvard Square here in Cambridge, and Saturday, December 3rd in Stratham, NH.
