Originally aired:
Multimedia producer Bill Lichtenstein was an overnight DJ as "Little Bill" on Boston's legendary WBCN in the 1970s, after starting in radio here at MIT's WTBS (now WMBR) while still in high school.
Bill is making a documentary film about the creation and early years of WBCN as a rock station in the late '60s and early '70s, and about what was going on culturally in Boston and beyond at that time. Named after WBCN's original "underground" rock format, it will be called The American Revolution".
Bill will join host Eli Polonsky live in the studio to talk about the movie and the history of WBCN and "underground" radio in Boston. We will also hear produced radio bits from the early years of WBCN, live music from the WBCN vaults, and we are expecting to speak by phone with former WBCN hosts Danny Schechter "The News Dissector", Boston DJ legend Charles Laquidara, former WTBS host Joe Rogers (a.k.a. "Mississippi Fats", the first on-air DJ when WBCN began rock programming in March '68), and possibly others.
