PATNAUSEAM PATDEMIC: Jump Into the Fire
Sunday, May 30, 2021
12:00pm - 2:00pm
Multi-octave polymath Harry Nilsson, regarded as the American Beatle by the Beatles themselves, purveyed a unique Americana steeped in Tin Pan Alley and orchestral flourishes. Little wonder that he recorded an entire LP of Randy Newman compositions.
Harry's 1971 canonical Nilsson Schmilsson is a breathtaking statement of bottomless talent. Next to the McCartney-esque "Gotta Get Up," and the cod-Carribbean novelty "Coconut," the "Jump on the Fire" is that record's foray into lunkhead metal. The song has burned into the memory of cineastes for Martin Scorcese's use of it to soundtrack the cocaine-paranoid climax of Goodfellas.
We'll hear two hours of the lost chord.
